Summer is a season of change for millions of students across the country — some prepare to start college, others complete their first internship, and many more embark on their post-graduation career journey. For us at Be Your Own Boss it was also time to take the next step, so we hired four interns from three different schools to help us take things to a new level. Luke Vanore and Max Kreber (University of Alabama and University of Dayton) are our two remote interns based out of Greensboro, NC, while Jack Adams and Payton Lira (University of Dayton and University of South Carolina) work directly from the TransNational Payments’ headquarters in Rosemont, IL.
Since Be Your Own Boss is all about helping college students gain meaningful professional experience to launch a successful career after graduation, collaboration plays a key role in helping them get there. That’s why we decided to fly Luke and Max in for a week in July to let all four interns get to know each other and accomplish something great. Here’s how it went:
Our interns kicked the week off on Monday morning by finally meeting each other in person.
With an action-packed week ahead everyone went straight to the first task at hand — creating a 60-day plan for the Be Your Own Boss Brand Ambassador Program, an exciting way for college students to get involved (and get paid) right on campus.
Tuesday was dedicated to working on individual summer projects, followed by a speech from Jae Haas, President of TransNational Payments, who gave our interns valuable advice on how to succeed in business. Afterwards, to celebrate a productive start to the week and Max’s 21st birthday, we took the entire Be Your Own Boss team to the Chicago Cubs’ game! Is there a better way to spend your 21st in Chicago than by watching the Cubs win at Wrigley Field?
Inspired by Cubs’ victory the night before, it was our interns’ turn to set themselves up for success, so back to the office we went. Wednesday proved to be very productive, as the team completed an important task of creating scripts for new promotional videos.
With only two days left, it was time to finish the week strong. On Thursday, Luke, Max, Jack and Payton got to put their carefully crafted scripts to work by recording promotional videos to raise awareness for Be Your Own Boss and give their fellow students an opportunity to have the same great internship experience.
And just like that we reached the end of a great week. Friday gave our interns a chance to wrap things up by reviewing the scrips, meeting with their managing directors and saying goodbye as Max and Luke headed back to North Carolina.
Sounds like an exciting five days? Now imagine spending your whole summer working on something fun and meaningful that can also boost your resume and provide valuable sales and marketing experience for your future career.
